Pagasa upgrades rainfall warning from green to red in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines—The state weather bureau Monday night upgraded rainfall warning from green to red in Metro Manila.

An accumulated rainfall of 83.5mm was recorded over Quezon City and 63.5mm over Marikina for the past three hours. Heavy to intense (10.0 to 30.0 mm/hr) rainfall over the rest of Metro Manila are forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said as of 9 p.m.

The public was alerted against flooding in low-lying areas and those located near river channels.

The rains are caused by southwest monsoon.

Meanwhile, monsoon rains will continue in Luzon and Visayas, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

A shallow low pressure area was earlier spotted by Pagasa 770 kilometers east of Northern Luzon.
