MANILA, Philippines — Though Gener may be out of the Philippine territory, rains from southwest monsoon are still expected, the state weather bureau said Friday.

The southwest monsoon was affecting Luzon and Western Visayas, which will bring mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

The western section will be cloudy with widespread rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, it added.

Meanwhile, a low pressure area that is being monitored is likely to pass by the edge of the Philippine territory but should it enter the Philippine area of responsibility and become a cyclone, it would be called “Helen”.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail throughout the archipelago and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
