Briton scoops record 185 million euros in lottery win
LONDON – A Briton Tuesday won a record 185 million euros in the Euro Millions lottery, lottery operator Camelot announced.
The previous record holder was also a player from Britain who won 129 million euros ($181 million) in October 2010.
The Euro Millions lottery, launched in 2004, is now played by nine countries across western Europe: Austria, Belgium, Britain, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.
A spokesman for Britain’s National Lottery said: “This is amazing news. We are absolutely delighted that a UK ticket holder has scooped the entire 185 million euro jackpot.
“In addition, two UK ticket-holders in the next prize level down won £1.7 million for matching five main numbers and one Lucky Star.
“We’ve got the champagne on ice and look forward to welcoming the ticket holders into the National Lottery millionaires’ club,” added the spokesman.
