Rama turns over books to 8 high schools

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama turned over 500 College Algebra books to the eight high schools in the city offering Special Science classes last June 25 at the social hall of Cebu City hall.

Dr. Althea Arenajo, a private individual, donated the books.

The Adopt-a-School program of the Department of Education and the public-private partnership program of Mayor Rama encourage everyone, and companies to exercise their corporate social responsibility to help answer the needs of the students.

The beneficiary schools represented by their school principals, heads of Science department and presidents of Supreme Student Government received 62 books each.

These include the Special Science classes of Talamban National High School (NHS), Ramon Duterte Memorial NHS, Pardo NHS, Gothong Memorial NHS, Cebu City National Science High School, Apas NHS, Mabolo NHS and Don Sergio Osmeña Memorial NHS.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, in his message, acknowledged the effort and generosity of Dr. Arenajo, who is their neighbor in Rama compound in Basak, Cebu City.

The mayor said “this activity reminds us to treasure our good deeds. Despite the many challenges, the values that I learned from my parents have never been distorted.”

Meanwhile, Mark Lester Canubas, a student representative from Talamban National High School, said, “This act of kindness inspires us to soar high, to excel and do more. Thank you for being an instrument to answer our needs, it is our key to the tons of success in the near future.”

The activity was facilitated by Ester Cubero, the mayor’s consultant on Education, together with Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent Rhea Mar Angtud.
