Senate website ‘under maintenance’ after alleged hacking
MANILA, Philippines — The Senate website is “under maintenance” on Thursday morning after a group claiming to be “Nullsec Philippines” alleged that it had defaced a page on the institution’s official website.
Screenshots circulating on social media showed a message criticizing corruption and calling for transparency and accountability in government.
The alleged defacement was posted by cybersecurity monitoring page “Deep Web Konek,” which said the affected page had since been removed or restored.
In an advisory issued Thursday, the Senate’s Electronic Data Processing and Management Information Systems (EDP-MIS) team confirmed that the website had been subjected to an “unauthorized modification, commonly referred to as a website defacement.”
The office said its technical team immediately activated security protocols, contained the incident, and launched an investigation into the unauthorized activity.
The EDP-MIS reaffirmed that there has been no indication that any confidential or sensitive information had been compromised, as the website primarily contains publicly accessible documents and materials.
This comes as the Senate is under heightened security amid reports of a possible threat.
