Games today:
Araneta Coliseum
5:15 p.m.- Barako Bull vs. Brgy. Ginebra
7:30 p.m.- Air21 vs. Petron
Three teams in a tight race for a playoff spot seek crucial wins today in the 37th PBA Governors’ Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Barako Bull Energy take on the Barangay Ginebra Kings in the first game, while the Petron Blaze Boosters face the ousted Air21 Express in the main game.
Ginebra and Petron are two of the four teams currently crowding the fourth to seventh spots. The Kings, the Boosters, the Meralco Bolts and the Powerade Tigers all have 4-4 (win-loss).
A win by Ginebra and Petron will earn them at least a playoff for a semifinal berth.
The Energy are also in a must-win situation. They are at eighth spot with three wins and four defeats.
Leading the standings are semifinal-bound Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, who have a 7-1 slate. Trailing the Painters are the B-Meg Llamados and the Talk ’N Text Tropang Texters, who are tied for the second thirds spots with five wins and three losses.
Six teams will advance to the semis while four teams will be booted out.
With the current standings, several teams could end up with similar records after the elimination. A tie for the sixth spot will be resolved via playoffs.
First to be eliminated were the Alaska Aces and the Air21 Express. Alaska finished the tournament winning only two games in nine battles. The Express, who are on their final elimination round game, were formally eliminated last Wednesday when they lost to the Aces, 80-110.
