Energen Pilipinas sizzles in opener

THE ENERGEN Pilipinas national squad wasted no time in announcing their bid for a repeat title as they routed the hapless Laos, 124-28, at the start of the 8th Southeast Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) Under-18 Championship late Wednesday night in Singapore.

The Philippine squad ran right out of the gates and posted a 24-point lead at the end of the first before adding insult to injury by outscoring their opponents, 30-2, in the second canto to post an insurmountable 62-12 lead at the turn.

The Energen team had six players reach double-digits in scoring led by the 24 of big man Mario Bonleon while Rey Nambatac added 17.

Kent Lao chipped in a double-double performance of 16 points and 15 boards while Prince Rivero also had the same feat with 12 markers and 10 rebounds.

RR De Leon and JJ Alejandro rounded out the scoring parade with 16 and 12 points, respectively.
