A MAN was shot dead by his brother while a woman was killed allegedly by her estranged husband in separate incidents that happened hours apart in Mandaue City on Friday night.
Eduardo Gerundo Hernandez, 34, was shot dead by his younger brother Alberto after they argued in the Semense compound in barangay Tipolo.
“They argued after Eduardo allegedly told Alberto that his son won’t have a bright future” said Insp. Ramil Morpos, chief of the Subangdaku police station, in Cebuano.
At the height of the argument at 6 p.m., Eduardo went home and later returned to his younger brother’s house with a bladed weapon.
Police said that when Alberto saw that his brother was armed, he took a .38 revolver and shot Eduardo in the abdomen.
Eduardo was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City where he later died.
Police arrested Alberto in his house where a .38 revolver was recovered.
About two hours later, a woman was shot dead while her partner was wounded in in barangay Looc.
Police said Melony Sagaad, 35, and Armando Yrog-Yrog were aboard a motorcycle when another motorcycle with two men on board bumped them from behind.
The couple fell on the road.
One of the motorcycle riders got down and fired at the victims several times.
Sagaad died on the spot from gunshot wounds in the head, right hand and back.
Her male partner survived with multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
Police said the woman’s estranged husband Diego Sagaad was arrested hours after the shooting in a motel where he worked as a cook.
Police said Diego was identified by a witness as the one who drove the motorcycle used by the perpetrator.
Police said love triangle is being looked into as possible motive for the attack.
Police said Diego and Melony separated in 2004.
The woman later had a relationship with Yrog-Yrog. /CORRESPONDENTS FE MARIE D. DUMABOC AND NORMAN V. MENDOZA
