1 dead as ‘Butchoy’ leaves Philippines

MANILA, Philippines –Typhoon “Butchoy” left one child dead despite not making landfall, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday.
The body of the child, identified as 12-year old Kiana Maru Obleda, was found Tuesday afternoon floating in the Floodway of Barangay (village) San Juan in Taytay, Rizal, NDRRMC said in its latest report.
She was believed to have drowned at the Bitbit falls in Sitio (sub-village) Bitbit, Barangay Mayamot, Antipolo City after she and her two friends went for a swim afternoon of June 17, Sunday despite the heavy rains from Typhoon Butchoy.
Obleda’s remains were brought to Antipolo Memorial Homes, according to Radyo Inquirer 990AM report, quoting Joey Marco, chief of the city disaster risk reduction management office.
The same report, however, said the victim was swimming with her two cousins Monday.
Meanwhile, three persons were reported missing after their motorized boat “Princess Loan” from Corcuera, Romblon failed to arrive at their port of destination in Cawit, Marinduque on the same day.
NDRRMC said that the three people identified as, Rene Fallarna, 50, Pepito Fallarna, 38, and Onyo Fajardoza, 38, departed from Barangay Mangasag at around 5 AM of June 18 to deliver 80 piglets but failed to arrive at the expected time of 10 AM.
Butchoy was already heading out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of Wednesday after at least a week on the eastern seaboard of the country. With a report from Ruel Perez, Radyo Inquirer 990AM.
