MANILA, Philippines— Live media coverage will be allowed during the selection proceedings for the selection of the next Chief Justice, it was announced Monday.

“The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has resolved to allow cameras and tape recorders in the room where interviews of the candidates are held as well as live TV and radio coverage of the proceedings,” high court spokesperson Gleo Guerra said at a press conference.

The JBC’s latest resolution amends a previous rule that allowed only the members of the Council to be present during the interviews with the candidates for the position of Chief Justice.

The new rule will also apply to other similar selection proceedings to be conducted by the JBC, according to Ms. Guerra.
