Scammers spoil fun for DOT

Scammers are spoiling the fun for the Department of Tourism (DOT).

In an advisory issued over the weekend, the DOT warned the public about individuals soliciting funds using the name of Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. ostensibly for government projects or favors.

“The scammers would call or text their victims, who are directed to deposit requested amounts to a personal bank account,” the advisory said.

The DOT advised the public to report any incidents to the department through the office of Maria Victoria Jasmin, undersecretary for tourism regulation, coordination and resource generation.

Earlier, Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. directed authorities to investigate  people using his name to carry out illegal activities. Investigation led to the arrest of a group that is now in the custody of the Philippine National Police. Jocelyn R. Uy
