MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Appointments (CA) approved on Wednesday the appointments of two Cabinet secretaries, 59 foreign service officials, and 118 flag and senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

FEATURED STORIES

The two Cabinet secretaries whose appointments were greenlighted by the body are Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling and Department of Foreign Affairs chief Maria Theresa Lazaro.

“Beyond his professional achievements, Secretary Aliling is known in the community as a compassionate and socially-driven individual. His philanthropic efforts aimed at uplifting communities include helping disadvantaged youth, supporting children with special needs, and providing pro bono construction management for churches,” said Sen. Joel Villanueva in his sponsorship speech before Aliling’s appointment was approved.

“Secretary Aliling embodies the qualities of a visionary leader, a dedicated public servant, and a compassionate advocate for the Filipino people. His appointment as DHSUD Secretary stands as both a recognition of his expertise and a promise of empowering leadership in addressing the country’s housing challenges,” he added.

Aliling was appointed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in May.

Meanwhile, Lazaro’s appointment approval was ushered in by Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada.

“In this time of great geopolitical uncertainty, we need a seasoned hand, a strategic thinker, and a firm yet diplomatic voice to lead our foreign policy. Ms. Lazaro brings all these—and more—to the position of Secretary of Foreign Affairs,” said Estrada.

“Lazaro has proven herself worthy of this critical role. She possesses the gravitas, wisdom, and commitment that the post demands. I therefore respectfully urge this Commission to confirm her appointment as Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines,” he added.

Apart from Aliling and Lazaro, the appointment of the  following 59 foreign service officials were also approved.
