DepEd: 1 million Google workspace accounts for teaching, non-teaching staff

MANILA, Philippines — One million Google Workspace for Education Plus accounts will be provided to teaching and non-teaching personnel, according to the Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday. 

The DepEd said that the license procurement is to enhance productivity and efficiency among teaching and non-teaching staff.

“This partnership with Google is not just a major upgrade; it’s proof that education, when powered by the right technology, can scale exponentially,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said in a statement.

Google Workspace for Education Plus will grant access to Google Meet, Google Classroom, and AppSheet. 

“Teachers and personnel will likewise have the opportunity to collaborate through various platforms such as Gmail, Classroom, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Assignments,” the DepEd said in the same statement. 

The advanced platform will also include integration of Khan Academy, an online education non-profit group.

In August 2024, the education department tapped Khan Academy to provide digital learning materials for around 1,000 public schools in the country.

Further, the agency said that it aims to deliver 64,816 laptops and smart television packages worth P1.913 billion to 16 regions of the country under the DepEd Computerization Program (DCP) by the second half of the year.

It noted that it is “in response to the reports of 39,972 (69.3%) schools with below ideal student to device ratios.”

The DepEd also said that the DCP is a response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s vision of empowering learners and teachers with digital spaces.
