Vico Sotto warns of fake net pages of supposed Pasig officials

MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto cautions the public of “verified” fake pages of people posing as public officials.

In a Facebook story, Sotto’s account posted a screenshot of what appeared to be an official page of Pasig Councilor Angelu De Leon with a faded picture of a foreign man.

“Councilor Angelu De Leon di mo naman sinabi na may new look ka pala,” the mayor said with a laughing emoticon.

[Translation: Councilor Angelu De Leon you did not tell me that you had a new look.]

“Their desperate moves continue. They use these ‘verified’ fake pages to report the original/ real pages as “impersonation” kaya mandalas nasu-suspend and original/real pages,” he also wrote on Friday.

[Translation: …that’s why the original or real pages get suspended.]

Sotto pointed out that the pages seemed to be old foreign pages renamed and that their posts were “antedated or back-dated.”

“As of 2 p.m. the page has been taken down,” he said.

In another story, Sotto also posted a photo of another verified page named “Mayor Vico Sotto (Supporters).”

“Ito isa pang sample ng ginagawa nila (page is not online for now) please help spread awareness and report when you see it. Hindi natin sasabayan ang troll farms at social media operations nila, kayo lang ang inaasahan ko. Salamat,” he told the public.

[Translation: This is another sample of what they are doing (the page is not online for now) please, help spread awareness and report when you see it. We will not follow their troll farms and social media operations, I only expect you. Thank you.]
