LTO: 1,126 show-cause orders issued in 2024

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a total of 1,126 show-cause orders (SCOs) against erring motor vehicle owners and drivers in 2024.
According to the LTO, 508 of the total SCOs involved violations of the provisions of the Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, including improper person to operate a motor vehicle that is punishable by either suspension or revocation of driver’s license.
The LTO also said that 448 SCOs were related to the use of fake licenses; 74, on the Anti-Distracted Driving Act; 69, on road incidents reported to the LTO Central Command Center; and 27, on the use of double licenses.

Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said the LTO was able to issue many SCOs this year due to active social media monitoring of traffic rules and regulations violations, including cases of road rage.

Mendoza noted that nearly all of the SCOs issued resulted in the imposition of penalties against those involved, including suspension of driver’s license and motor vehicle registration, and even revocation of the driver’s license.
However, he expressed hope that fewer SCOs will be issued in 2025 as it would mean fewer cases of traffic offenses.
“For 2025, our New Year’s wish is that we would issue fewer SCOs, or we would no longer issue any SCO because this means that all our motorists are now abiding traffic rules and regulations,” Mendoza said.
