LTO stops listup of truck in deadly crash

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Friday said it has ordered a 90-day preventive suspension on the registration of the truck that figured in a fatal accident at the Katipunan Avenue flyover in Quezon City on Dec. 5.

The incident left four persons dead and at least 25 others injured.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said the investigation disclosed that the truck was found to have a roadworthiness problem, registration discrepancy, and previous violations for overloading.

Following the discovery of the traffic violation records and discrepancy in the registration, the LTO chief also ordered that the license plate of the truck be confiscated.

The LTO earlier issued a show cause order against the driver of the truck, identified by the police as Richard Mangupag, and the registered owner of the truck.

The truck was registered to Hermano Oil Manufacturing and Sugar Corp., based in Novaliches, Quezon City.—Jerome Aning
