MANILA, Philippines — The implementation of the expanded number coding scheme was suspended on Monday due to the anticipated adverse effects of Typhoon Nika (international name: Toraji).

This was announced by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority in a Facebook post on Sunday evening.

“Suspendido ang pagpapatupad ng Expanded Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) o number coding scheme sa Lunes, Nobyembre 11, dahil sa inaasahang epekto ng Severe Tropical Storm #NikaPH,” the post read.

Nika intensified into a typhoon early Monday morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

It was last spotted some 100 kilometers east southeast of Casiguran, Aurora, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center, with gusts of up to 150 kph.

The typhoon is moving west-northwestward at 20 kph.
