MANILA, Philippines – Over 7,600 elementary school students will receive free vaccines from Makati City as it resumes its school-based immunization program.

In a statement on Monday, Mayor Abby Binay said that the immunization program will protect the students from “vaccine-preventable” diseases like measles, rubella, tetanus, diphtheria, and human papillomavirus (HPV)

 “Makati has always put the health of our students first. By resuming our school-based immunization program, we are taking another important step in safeguarding our children’s health and ensuring they have the protection they need as they continue their education in a safe environment,” Binay said.

Binay added that 7,621 students from 24 public elementary and high schools in Makati will benefit from the program from October 11 to November 22, 2024

The Makati Health Department said that students from Grades 1 and 7 will receive vaccines for measles, rubella, and tetanus-diphtheria while Grade 4 female students will get the HPV vaccine in two doses for six months.

“Makati also gives the following free vaccines to infants and children aged 0 to 12 months: Hepatitis B (at birth), BCG (at birth), PENTA Hib (6 weeks, 10 weeks, and 14th week), OPV (6 weeks, 10 weeks, and 14th week), IPV (14th week and 9th month), MR at 9 months, and MMR at 1 year old,” the city government added. 

The city previously launched a vaccination drive to combat shingles through the “Yellow Card” or Makati Health Plus Program.
