DSWD W. VIsayas exec to run for Vice Mayor in Iloilo town
ILOILO CITY — A top official of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Western Visayas has quit his post to run for an elective position in Miagao town in Iloilo.
DSWD regional information officer May Rago-Castillo confirmed the resignation of lawyer Carmelo Nochete effective Oct. 1, the first day of filing the certificate of candidacy.
Nochete said Arwin Razon, DSWD acting assistant regional director for operations, had been named officer-in-charge.
Rumors were rife that Nochete would run for vice mayor of Miagao, alongside re-electionist Mayor Richard Garin.
In July, talks about Nochete’s electoral bid resurfaced after the proliferation of videos on social media that showed Nochete, Garin, and other officials of Miagao dancing while wearing uniformed red polo shirts with their last names at the back.
