Pro-Corona groups accompany Chief Justice from SC to Senate
MANILA, Philippines—Situation remains peaceful around the vicinity of the Philippine Senate a few hours before Chief Justice Renato Corona arrives to sit on the witness stand on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent Rolando Asuncion, the chief of staff of the Southern Police District, said that no group of protesters—may it be pro, or anti-corona—have arrived at the Senate area—located at the GSIS building in Pasay City—to stage their protests as of posting time.
He said rally groups are anticipated to arrive around 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., but said that “sufficient” number of personnel from the Pasay police and District Public Safety Battalion have been deployed to the Senate as early as 6 a.m. to keep protesters from going beyond the area near the Manila Film Center, which is a few hundred meters from the GSIS building.
Radio reports said that the bikers and motorcycle club of the Supreme Court will accompany Corona as they travel to the Senate later through a caravan protest from their office.
From the Supreme Court, the report said the group will turn right to Maria Orosa, left to UN Avenue, then to Roxas Boulevard until they reach the Senate area probably around 11 a.m., after the interfaith Mass for Corona.
No traffic rerouting within the vicinity have been imposed, Asuncion said.
