MANILA, Philippines — No tsunami warning was raised in the Philippines after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake rocked Kyushu, Japan on Thursday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
A Phivolcs tsunami bulletin stated: “There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake.”

According to the United States Geological Survey, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake followed by a 7.1 tremor hit southern Japan on Thursday.
Broadcaster NHK also reported that tsunamis of up to one meter were expected to arrive or have arrived in some coastal areas in Kyushu and Shikoku Islands following the temblor.
