PNR train-van collision victim in Albay dies
LEGAZPI CITY — A 24-year-old man died on Tuesday, July 30, three days after a Philippine National Railways (PNR) train dragged the van he was in as it was crossing an intersection in Daraga town in Albay.
His family confirmed that John Carlo Olaybal died at 9:15 a.m. He was among the 12 passengers in the van that was dragged on Saturday, July 27, for almost 78 feet by the PNR train along the intersection in Barangay Gapo.
Some of the victims had severe head injuries and were being treated in different hospitals.
Lieutenant Ma. Isabel Nopia, information officer of Daraga police, earlier said that the van driver may not have heard the train horn while crossing the railroad.
Nopia said passengers rented the van for an outing in Pilar town in Sorsogon province.
