MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday directed disaster response agencies to ensure Filipinos receive early warnings against incoming typhoons.

Marcos made the pronouncement after a meeting with the officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

“The safety of our people is our top priority! I have directed our disaster response agencies to ensure Filipinos receive timely warnings about incoming typhoons, along with clear instructions on what actions to take and where to seek shelter or assistance,” Marcos’ Facebook post read.

Last week, Super Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon battered several parts of the country, bringing heavy rains and causing severe flooding in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

The two weather systems left 36 people dead, six injured, and three missing.
