Canceled flights: Bad weather affects Manila-Zamboanga route

MANILA, Philippines — At least four flights bound for Manila on Tuesday were diverted to other airports due to hazardous weather conditions brought by Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi) and the southwest monsoon.

In an advisory, the Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) said the following flights were diverted:

Cebu Pacific Air (5J)

  • 5J 326  Legazpi to Manila  – Diverted to Iloilo International Airport

AirAsia (Z2)

  • Z2 712  Kalibo to Manila – Diverted to Clark International Airport
  • Z2 618  Davao to Manila – Diverted to Kalibo International Airport

Malaysia Airlines (MH)

  • MH 806 Kuala Lumpur to Manila – Diverted to Clark International Airport

Meanwhile, 14 flights were also canceled by Miaa as of 11:15 a.m. because of the inclement weather conditions.

Based on the 11 a.m. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Carina slightly intensified as it packed maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness up to 170 kph. The typhoon was last located 320 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.

Pagasa raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 over Batanes towns Itbayat, Basco, Mahateo, Uyagan, and Ivana while TCWS No. 1 was hoisted over the following areas:

  • The rest of Batanes (Sabtang)
  • Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
  • Eastern portion of Isabela (Divilacan, Palanan, Maconacon, Dinapigue, Tumauini, Ilagan City, San Mariano,
  • Cabagan, San Pablo, Santa Maria)
  • Northern portion of Apayao (Calanasan, Luna, Pudtol, Flora, Santa Marcela)
  • Northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Bangui, Adams, Dumalneg, Burgos, Vintar)
  • Northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran)
  • Polillo Islands
  • Calaguas Island
  • Northern portion of Catanduanes (Pandan, Bangamanoc, Panganiban, Viga, Gigmoto, Caramoran)

Carina was also enhancing the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, in other parts of the country, according to Pagasa.
