LUCENA CITY — A motorcycle-riding member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu) of the Philippine Army was caught Monday with an illegal firearm and shabu (crystal meth) after a brief chase with police in Tuy town in Batangas province.

The Region 4A police reported on Tuesday, July 9, that cops conducting “Oplan Sita,” a routine anti-criminality inspection, flagged down “Ariel” in Barangay Luntal at 8:50 p.m. for driving without a crash helmet.

While the authorities were inspecting the vehicle’s documents, the rider suddenly fled, prompting the policemen to give chase until he was cornered.

During the routine frisking, the police found the suspect carrying an undocumented caliber .45 pistol loaded with two bullets, one empty magazine for the same pistol, and a sachet of shabu worth P18,360.

The suspect was also found with a Cafgu identification card.

The suspect was placed under police custody and is facing criminal charges including violating the firearms law and the anti-drugs law.
