LUCENA CITY — A 59-year-old farmer died Monday after lightning allegedly struck him in Gumaca town in Quezon province, police said.

The Quezon police said in a report on Tuesday, July 9, that “Fernando,” a barangay tanod (village watchman), was found dead at around 3:30 p.m. on a farm in Barangay Casasahan.

He bore signs of burns on his right arm that investigators believed were caused by lighting that eventually caused his death.

The report said there were no signs of foul play.

His family said Fernando left the house around 6 a.m. to attend to their farm animals but did not return.

Police have recorded his death as due to a “suspected lightning strike.”
