Gov’t forces recover arms cache in Albay

LEGAZPI CITY –Government forces on Wednesday, May 29, found assorted firearms and ammunition that were buried underground in Oas town in Albay province.

Major Frank Roldan, spokesperson of the 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, said in a report Thursday that police and Army troops found eight M16 rifles, a M203 grenade launcher, M14 rifle, sniper rifle, and assorted magazines and bullets in Barangay Tablon at around 3 p.m.

Roldan said some residents reported the presence of hidden weapons, believed to be owned by the New People’s Army (NPA).

In a separate report, Brigadier General Andre Perez Dizon, Bicol police chief, said the arms cache was possibly buried by the three NPA members previously arrested in the area.
