Olongapo City endures 'dangerous' heat index for 4 straight days

OLONGAPO CITY — For four days, the city had to endure intense heat, with the index consistently reaching a dangerous level.

On Wednesday, the maximum heat index in this city reached 43°C, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

It was slightly lower than the 44°C recorded in the city on Tuesday.

Since May 19, the city’s heat index has lingered between 42°C and 43°C.

According to Pagasa, the heat index refers to the degree of perceived temperature that a person feels.

A heat index is classified as “dangerous” when it reaches 42°C until 51°C.

The city disaster risk reduction and management office has warned residents here to watch out for heat-related illnesses due to prolonged exposure to the sun. INQ
