Heat index forecast for April 8: 'Danger' level hotness in 9 areas

MANILA, Philippines — Temperatures will soar to “danger” levels in nine areas nationwide on April 8, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

State meteorologists previously explained that a heat index ranging from 42 degrees Celsius to 51 degrees Celsius is within the “danger” category and that people must take caution to lessen its impact on health.

Pagasa said Daet in Camarines Norte is expected to sizzle at 46 degrees Celsius, while Cotabato City in Maguindanao may experience temperatures of up to 44 degrees Celsius and Aparri in Cagayan as high as 43 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Meanwhile, a 42-degree Celsius heat index is anticipated in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Aborlan, Palawan; CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur; and Roxas City, Capiz, according to the state weather agency.

Pagasa defines heat index as “a human discomfort index that gives the apparent temperature on what humans perceive or feel as the temperature (from the surroundings) affecting the body.”

Exposure to temperatures within the danger zone may cause heat cramps and exhaustion, while continued exposure to such heat may result in heat stroke, it added.
