MANILA, Philippines — Despite the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said rains are still likely in some areas of the country on Monday.

In a weather report, Pagasa specialist Rhea Torres explained that the easterlies, or warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean, will continue to bring hot weather across the archipelago.

“We can still expect that hot weather will continue today,” she first said in Filipino.

But satellite images indicate that rainfall may occur in Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao, Torres continued.

“Although we are monitoring some cloud (formations), the rainfall will not last for very long, particularly in Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan. Rain may fall around noon but will eventually subside in the afternoon,” the Pagasa specialist added.

Pagasa said in a separate advisory that rains in some parts of the country are due to the easterlies and cautioned for “possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.”

Torres explained that such weather conditions are likely to continue until Thursday since “there are no weather systems that may cause rainfall that will last the entire day in any part of our country.”

As for the country’s seaboards, Pagasa did not raise any gale warnings, which means vessels are free to sail in coastal waters.

Torres further said they are not monitoring any low-pressure area forming within or entering the Philippine area of responsibility.
