MANILA, Philippines — Former first lady Imelda R. Marcos is in “good spirits” despite slight pneumonia and fever, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said on Tuesday.

“I just spoke with my mother’s doctors. She is suffering from slight pneumonia and is running a fever,” Marcos said on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

“She is in good spirits, has no difficulty in breathing and is resting well. I thank the Filipino public for their concern and prayers,” he added.

The president also said that the former first lady has been put on a course of antibiotics.

Doctors were also confident that the medicine would relieve her fever, Marcos added.

Senator Imee Marcos earlier confirmed with reporters that her 94-year-old mother has been hospitalized due to suspected pneumonia.

“Suspected pneumonia as she has been having fever [and] cough on [and] off,” she said.

“Given her age, we have to take max[imum] precautions,” she added.
