Former first lady Imelda Marcos hospitalized due to suspected pneumonia

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos confirmed on Tuesday that her mother — former First Lady Imelda R. Marcos has been hospitalized due to suspected pneumonia.

In a text message, Sen. Marcos said her mother has been having bouts of fever and cough.

“Suspected pneumonia as she has been having fever [and] cough on [and] off,” she said.

“Given her age, we have to take max[imum] precautions,” she added.

The senator said her 94-year-old mother is hospitalized for “close monitoring.”

The former first lady, widow of the late former president Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., celebrated her 94th birth anniversary in Malacañang in July last year.
