MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday arrived in Canberra, Australia for a state visit.

Marcos left the Philippines at around 8:30 am from Villamor Airbase in Pasay city.

“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. arrived at the Royal Australian Air Force Fairbairn in Canberra, Australia at 7:20 pm local time (4:11 pm in Manila),” said Presidential Communications Office.

Marcos is set to address the Australian Parliament during his two-day visit.

He will return to the Philippines on Thursday.

“I anticipate an enhancement of the mutual understanding between the Philippines and Australia as we share a common vision not just for our bilateral relations, but for the peace and security of the region as well,” said Marcos in his departure speech.

“Collaboration in these additional fields is a clear indication that the Strategic Partnership, which we have embarked upon, provides greater energy and optimism for closer cooperation that is mutually beneficial to both Filipinos and Australians,” said the Philippine leader.

During the trip, Marcos is expected to sign three agreements on cooperation, but Palace did not specify what these accords are.

He will also discuss matters on defense and trade with Australian leaders.

After the President’s return to the Philippines, he will again go back to Australia three days later or next Monday to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations – Australia Summit.
