LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Philippines — Three motorcycle riders died, including a 7-year-old girl, after their vehicle collided Tuesday night with a passenger bus in Tagkawayan town in Quezon province.

The Quezon Police Provincial Office reported that motorcyclist Dennis Cambel, with two back-riders, was negotiating at 10:40 p.m. a section of the Quirino Highway in Barangay San Diego.

The motorcycle occupied the opposite lane and consequently collided with an oncoming passenger bus driven by Gilberto Santos, the police said.

All riders suffered grave injuries and Cambel died on the spot.

The two back-riders were taken to the Ma. Lourdes Eleazar General Hospital in the town center but both of them died Wednesday morning (Feb. 21) while undergoing treatment.

In a phone interview Wednesday, Major Eric Veluz, Tagkawayan police chief, said the back-riders were mother and daughter, 7.

“The riders were all wearing crash helmets,” Veluz said.

He said they decided to hold back the identities of the mother and daughter and their relationship with Cambel pending confirmation by their relatives.

The bus driver was placed under police custody and is facing criminal charges.
