LUCENA CITY — Two sisters drowned while swimming on Saturday in Taal Lake in Laurel
town in Batangas province.

In a report on Sunday night, the Philippine Coast Guard-District Southern Tagalog said they received a report that two people went missing while swimming in a portion of the lake in
Barangay Bugaan East.

The PCG station in Laurel town immediately dispatched a search-and-rescue (SAR) team to the site.

When they arrived at the site, the SAR team found out that the body of Aira Gene Obejera, 27, a resident of Lipa City, had already been recovered by a local fisherman using his boat.

A fish cage feeder was also able to retrieve the body of the unconscious Glenda Joy Obejera, 12.

Both victims were rushed to a hospital in the locality, but they died while being revived by medical workers.

The report, citing information from Jillian Obejera, the sister of the two victims, said the three of them went swimming at 2:20 p.m.

However, they found themselves in the deeper part of the lake, Jillian said.

Jillian managed to swim back to the shore but her two siblings did not make it and drowned, the PCG said.
