DA updating electronic database of farmers, fisherfolk
According to the DA, the updating of the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture will help digitalize operations to reduce costs, and to provide consumers with affordable food.
Agriculture Undersecretary Roger Navarro said that the updating was supposed to be finished in 2023, but there are still islands which have not been covered.
“We were supposed to finish this update last year but we have so many islands to cover,” Navarro said.
The DA said that there are about 10 million farmers and fisherfolk, but initially, only 1.4 million of them were listed before the update began.
Navarro added that the update will also classify between those that will be assisted by the DA, and those that will be referred to other government agencies.
“This will allow us to cleanse the list for better use of our resources,” he added.
