MANILA, Philippines — Division is the Philippines’ greatest enemy, said the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) on Monday.

Following former President Rodrigo Duterte’s call for a separate Mindanao, LCP President and Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama backed the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos’ call for a united nation.

“The League supports the duly constituted authority and remains steadfast in upholding the Constitution,” said Rama.

“We must continue to be guided by selfless service — a hallmark of genuine public servants,” he noted.

“Our strength as a nation lies in our ability to rise above partisanship and self-interests. Our nemesis is a divided nation,” he added.

On Friday, Abalos said the Philippines must remain united to maintain peace in Mindanao.
