DSWD turns over community subprojects to Libacao, Aklan villages

 Aklan province

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday announced that it has turned over community-based sub-projects worth more almost P6.4 million to barangays in Libacao, Aklan.

This was part of its Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) – National Community Driven Development Program, which seeks to help poor communities through disaster prevention efforts and other services.

“These sub-projects were identified by the community members themselves based on their assessed needs,” DSWD Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez said.

DSWD gave P5.4 million from the KALAHI-CIDSS, while P985,000 was from the Libacao local government.

Some of the sub-projects are the renovation of roads and river bank protection.

“Through the KALAHI-CIDSS projects, we provided an accessible road for the community members in transporting their produce to the market and providing access to the students going to school,” Lopez said.

“These sub-projects are expected to create a greater impact not just on the economy of the community but also on the education of the students and the life of the people from the barrios because of the ease that the projects will bring in the daily transportation of the people, goods, and services,” he added.
