MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Mandaluyong City has temporarily suspended the collection of amusement taxes for local films in the city.
In a city ordinance signed by Mandaluyong Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr. on Monday, the city government has suspended amusement taxes for the exhibition of local films for three years.
According to the ordinance, this is in support of the local film industry.

“[T]he City, as a form of support to the local film industry, has reduced or temporarily waived amusement taxes imposed upon particular film and movie producers and theatre operators within the City for numerous instances and on a case-to-case basis, evidencing its genuine intent to aid, assist, and provide means to the Philippine movie industry in achieving its highest artistic and financial potentials;” the ordinance said.
“The assessment, collection, and payment of the 10% amusement tax for the exhibition of all locally produced films and movies is hereby suspended for a period of three (3) years commencing on the date of this Ordinance’s effectivity, subject to all laws and existing legal rules and regulations,” it added.

Once the three-year period ends, normal collection of the 10-percent amusement tax will resume, and the ordinance will continue.
The ordinance also took effect last Jan. 29.
