pasay kidnap suspext not ex-cop says PNP

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) clarified on Tuesday that one of the suspects arrested in Pasay City for allegedly trying to abduct a 35-year-old Chinese businesswoman was not a former police officer.

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo told INQUIRER.net that Pasay police made the correction after checking the suspect’s identity on their database.

“Sa initial report ng Pasay [police] ‘yun po nilagay nila na ex-policeman kasi yun daw po pakilala [ng] suspect. But based sa investigation at record check sa database ng PNP wala po ganun name na active, retired or dismissed police po,” she said in a Viber message.

(That’s what the Pasay police said in its initial report since the suspect introduced himself as a former policeman. But based on investigation and after checking the PNP database, it turned out that he is not an active, retired, or dismissed member of the police force.)

According to the Southern Police District’s report, all suspects were apprehended in Barangay 6 at 7:30 a.m. on Monday.

Witnesses claimed that they saw the victim getting dragged out of her vehicle.

The SPD said the suspects will face complaints for violating Republic Act (RA) 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearms), RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act), and Batas Pambansa Blg. 6 (Illegal Possession of Bladed, Pointed or Blunt Weapon).
