Bongbong Marcos orders all gov’t agencies to conserve energy

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered all national government agencies to utilize energy more efficiently in the midst of the ongoing El Niño phenomenon.

In Administrative Order No. 15, published in the Official Gazette on Tuesday, Marcos ordered the accelerated implementation of the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP).

”All agencies and instrumentalities of the National Government, including government-owned or -controlled corporations, are hereby directed, and all LGUS (local government units) are hereby encouraged, to undertake efforts to ensure efficient and judicious utilization of energy,” said Marcos in the order.

The GEMP is a government program that aims to reduce the government’s energy consumption.

Under the order, government agencies are required to have energy audits, submit an inventory of energy-consuming equipment, submit a timeline as to when they will replace this equipment with more energy-efficient products, and more.

Government agencies are also required to have a mechanism to monitor their energy consumption.
