Davao de Oro landslide death toll rises to 11

MANILA, Philippines — The body of a person who went missing after a landslide in Davao de Oro’s Monkayo town was recovered on Saturday afternoon, bringing the total death toll to 11.

According to the Municipality of Monkayo, the remains of Rommel Gumatin were found at 1 p.m.

“At exactly 1 p.m. the body of Mr. Rommel Gumatin was found today, January 20. Mr. Gumatin was the last seen by all the victims of the Mt. Diwata landslide,” it said in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, the number of injured persons remains at one.

Based on the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council report on Friday, there were a total of 70,862 families, or 270,206 individuals, who were affected by the landslides in the Davao Region.
