MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the groundbreaking of a relocation site in Cavite for people displaced by the Supreme Court (SC) order to clean up Manila Bay.

In 2003, the SC ‘Mandamus to Clean-Up the Manila Bay Area’ directed government agencies concerned to clean the polluted body of water and its surrounding areas.

“Ito ay para makapaghatid ng ginhawa para sa mga Caviteñong apektado ng Writ of Continuing Mandamus ng Supreme Court sa paglilinis ng Manila Bay, at paglilikas ng pamilyang nakatira sa baybaying ito,” said Marcos in his speech on Friday.

(This will bring relief to Caviteños affected by the Writ of Continuing Mandamus of Supreme Court to clean Manila Bay, and in the evacuation of families who live along its coasts.)

Marcos said government hastened the relocation project in Bacoor to give proper houses to affected families.

A total of 360 families were awarded housing units in Ciudad Kaunlaran Phase I, which currently has six buildings.

Palace also said three more buildings will be added to Phase 1, resulting in a total of nine buildings for this portion.

The President also led the groundbreaking of Ciudad Kaunlaran Phase II, which comprises two five-storey low rise buildings.

Phase II will have a total of 120 housing units.

According to Marcos, the project is the result of cooperation among National Housing Agency, local government of Bacoor, other government agencies, as well as the private sector.
