Minor earthquakes jolt Quezon island town

LUCENA CITY — Two successive minor earthquakes on Monday morning hit the island town of Panukulan in Quezon province.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported in its bulletin that a magnitude 3.3 tremor with a one-kilometer depth of focus was recorded in Panukulan at 2:38 a.m.

Earlier, at 12:02 a.m., the same town also experienced a magnitude 3 tremor with a 2-km depth of focus.

Phivolcs said the temblors were not expected to cause damage or aftershocks.

Panukulan and two other municipalities — Polillo and Burdeos — are located on Polillo Island off Lamon Bay facing the Pacific Ocean in the northern part of the province. INQ
