MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Friday that it has assisted an estimated 1,900 trafficking victims in 2023.
According to DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, victims of trafficking are assisted through the department’s Recovery and Reintegration Program for Trafficked Persons.
“This program underscores the DSWD’s unwavering commitment to the recovery and reintegration of victims and survivors of trafficking, as well as in the protection of their rights and promotion of their well-being,” Dumlao said.
In the program, victims will be given temporary shelter, counseling, skills training, and other assistance such as financial and transportation.
“The program’s success is attributed to its comprehensive package of services designed to address the diverse needs of survivors, facilitating their recovery and reintegration into society,” Dumlao added.
The DSWD said that it also coordinates with other agencies, such as the Department of Justice for the program. The DSWD is also a co-chair in the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking.
