73% of Filipinos expect happy Christmas — SWS

73% of Filipinos expect happy Christmas — SWS

MANILA, Philippines — Majority of Filipinos look forward to a happy Christmas this year, a survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) said on Saturday.

According to SWS, 73 percent of adult Filipinos expect a happy Christmas, while 6 percent expect it to be sad, and 21 percent expect it to be neither happy nor sad.

The number remains unchanged from the same survey which the SWS conducted in 2022.

The survey of the polling company also revealed that 51 percent of Filipinos were thankful for their good health, 29 percent were thankful for their family, and 16 percent for being alive.

Meanwhile, the SWS also listed the other responses with which Filipinos were most thankful for this year.

“Following the top three responses were Job/Career/Income (10%), Food to eat (8%), Coping with daily hardships (8%), Prosperity (5%), All the blessings (3%), Education (3%), Peace and safety (3%), and God (2%),” the SWS said.

“Obtaining 1% were responses related to Lovelife/Spouse, Motorcycle/Vehicle, Surviving an illness or surgery, Happy life, House, Financial support, Having no worries or problems, and Material things,” it added.

“Less than 1% answered Being able to help others (0.3%), while the rest of the other responses consisted of 1%. The remaining 2% did not give an answer,” it continued.

Filipinos who were expecting a happy Christmas were highest in Visayas at 78 percent. This was followed by Mindanao at 74 percent, Metro Manila at 72 percent, and Luzon outside Metro Manila, which the SWS termed as Balance Luzon, at 70 percent.

The SWS said that it conducted its survey from December 8 to 11, with 300 respondents each from Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.

It added that its sampling error margins are ±2.8 percent for national percentages, and ±5.7 percent each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
