MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) plans to conduct a nationwide motor vehicle listing caravan as nearly 24.7 million were found to have expired registrations.
LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said the motor vehicle registration caravan will be conducted at the barangay level in coordination with local government units.
“Sa level ng barangay ay madali nang malalaman ng ating mga opisyales ng barangay kung sino-sino at ilan sa kanilang mga constituents ang hindi rehistrado ang mga motorsiklo at mga sasakyan. Kaya tayo po ay hihingi ng tulong sa kanila tungkol dito,” he said in a statement.

“Sa pagsasagawa ng motor vehicle registration caravan, ipinapakita namin sa LTO na hindi lang kami puro enforcement. We will be going to bring the services of the LTO closer to our clients,” he added.

Mendoza further said they plan to simplify the registration process, especially for those who have difficulty using online platforms.
Data from the LTO showed that around 24.7 million motor vehicles, mostly motorcycles, have expired motor vehicle registrations.

Most of these expired registrations are in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon).
The nationwide motor vehicle registration caravan is also being planned as the government vowed an aggressive implementation of the “No Registration, No Travel” policy, which resulted in the recent apprehension of hundreds of motor vehicles.
Mendoza said owners of unregistered motor vehicles may face penalties and even impoundment of their vehicles.
