LUCENA CITY — A fire on Wednesday night razed a public elementary school building in General Luna town in Quezon province.

Quezon police said in a report on Thursday, Nov. 23, that the fire, which started at 9:30 a.m. and lasted for about two and one-half hours, destroyed the RP-US school building in General Luna Central Elementary School in Barangay 4.

Firemen from the neighboring towns helped put out the blaze while residents in the area also helped by forming a bucket relay system.

No casualties or serious injuries were reported during the fire.

Mayor Matt Florido, citing initial information from the school principal, said the fire started in one of the school rooms and engulfed the whole building.

In a post on his Facebook, Florido said all school equipment inside the building were destroyed.

However, the school records of the students were saved.

The local government is preparing a temporary area to be used for classes to avoid disrupting the education of the students.
