DAVAO CITY — A former mayor of Cateel town of Davao Oriental was shot dead at 10:10 a.m. today, Wednesday, near Jollibee Buhangin in this city, by unidentified assailants, the Davao City police reported.
Giselo Velasco Castillones, mayor of Cateel town from 1983 to 1986, was leaving the fast food chain
aboard the gray Mitsubishi Expander, when the gunman approached and shot him four times using a caliber-45 pistol.
Castillones was with his driver June Castro, who was also hit; and a certain Alma Lozentes, 57, a businesswoman and resident of the town’s San Rafael village.
The gunman boarded a motorcycle and fled after the shooting. Responding operatives from the Central 911 declared Castillones dead when they arrived at the scene and brought the wounded driver to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for treatment.

According to the Cateel town website, Castillones was elected vice mayor in 1982 but assumed the post of town mayor in 1983 by law of succession.
