4 dead in road crashes in Ilocos region

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Four people from Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan in Ilocos region died in separate vehicular mishaps between Monday and Tuesday, according to the Police Regional Office-1.

In Ilocos Sur, 18-year-old Sonny Boy Dangtayan died after suffering head injuries when the motorcycle he was driving at 3:20 a.m. on Tuesday collided with another vehicle driven by Joshua Abella, 20, police said.

The back riders of Dangtayan and Abella suffered leg injuries.

An initial police investigation showed that Abella was driving westward along San Agustin village in Candon City when Dangtayan, who was on the opposite lane, encroached in the former’s direction, resulting in a collision.

The police said that all those involved in the incidents were not wearing protective helmets and were under the influence of liquor.

In La Union, Arnold Bautista, 53, also died in a crash when the tricycle he was driving along the national highway in Caba town collided with another tricycle.

Investigators said Bautista was thrown out of his vehicle and was subsequently hit by an oncoming bus. Bautista was declared dead on arrival when he was rushed to a local hospital.

In La Union’s capital city of San Fernando, 37-year-old Chris Abenojar also died when he lost control of his motorcycle and subsequently hit an electric post.

In Pangasinan, police said Erickson Ligason, 42, died after he also lost control of a multicab he was driving along the national highway in Calanutan village in Rosales town.

The police said Ligason swerved onto the opposite lane, which then resulted in a collision with an unattended truck that was in the shoulder area of the road. INQ
